Luckily, Apple prevents users from deleting many of the essential or Native Apps and the Safari App happens to be one of those Apps that cannot be deleted on iOS devices. Another common reason for missing Safari Icon on iPhone is due to the Safari App being restricted under Screen Time Settings. Apple does not allow the users to delete the stock apps that come on the iPhones out-of-the-box. So, you cannot remove Safari from the iPhone, but it may be hidden or moved accidentally. Often the case of missing Safari app is that the Safari icon ends up in any one of the home screens or some folder.

Safari Issues with iOS 12, How To Fix

With iOS 12, Apple has introduced some changes that make Safari fast, more integrated with new components such as Screen Time and more secure.

In this section, we will first address some common settings that can cause Safari issues in general and then dive into specific iOS 12 Safari related issues and tips on how to fix them.

One of the main glitches that we found when using Safari with iOS 12 was around the experimental features settings in Safari.

Safari app not responding on mac windows 10

If you are seeing weird Safari behavior with iOS 12, Start by tapping on Settings > Safari > Advanced > Experimental Settings. The feature that you should disable is the ‘Swap processes on Navigation’. This feature has been a little buggy and can cause weird issues if you have it enabled.

The other area to inspect when using Safari and iOS 12 is the Restriction settings. This has changed from iOS 11.

Tap on Settings > Screen Time > Content and Privacy Restrictions and check your settings here. Disable Restrictions and check if you are still having Safari issues around accessing websites et al.

Similarly, if you are having issues browsing only certain sites, you may want to explore your content and privacy restrictions in the Screen Time app. Make sure that screen time restrictions web content is set to unrestricted.

Safari Not Loading After iTunes or Software Update? Seeing Message That “Safari Cannot Be Opened Because of a Problem?”

Some folks report problems with Safari after updating to a newer version of iTunes.

In particular, folks see the following message: “Safari will not load because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure Safari works with this version of OS X. You may have to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any updates to the application and OS X.”

If that’s happening to your Mac, try the following:

  • Rename the folder/file or put in a folder on your Desktop to isolate it this file: MobileDevice (navigate to /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.frameworks/Versions/A/MobileDevice)
    • If you can’t find this file, go to Finder > Go Menu (at the top)
    • Choose Go to Folder… (or use shortcut cmd + shift + G)
    • Type this in the search window: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/A
    • Locate the MobileDevice file
    • Isolate this file into a folder on your Desktop, rename it by adding a _OLD onto the end of its name, or drag it into your trash (we don’t recommend deleting this file)
  • Restart your Mac
  • Check is Safari starts working again

We’re not experiencing this issue ourselves so we are unable to verify.

You may not be able to do local backups of iDevices with iTunes after deleting, moving, or renaming MobileDevice files or folders.

Do You Back Up Your Mac?

If you back up your Mac regularly using Time Machine or another tool, you could also try and restore via Time Machine (or copy) the
System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/A/MobileDevice
from your backup and replace the current file with this backup version.

Don’t Back Up?

If you don’t back up (okay, you really should) you could also copy that same file from a Mac that uses the same operating system and doesn’t have this issue.

Easiest Solution? Update Your Mac OS X to El Capitan or any version of macOS!

Another workaround, if you don’t want to mess with those files, is to update your macOS or OS X to a later version—this appears to solve this particular issue.

Switch your device to landscape mode for a couple of seconds and the page will immediately load. You can then switch it back.
